Vision and principles

Our vision is to make Scotland the best place in the world for anyone to create games.

To achieve this, we amplify game making communities in Scotland by fostering valuable partnerships, having open conversations and creating accessible spaces.

Our principles

These help align our decisions, and we aim to attract similarly focused people and organisations to collaborate with.

Welcoming to everyone

No matter your background, proficiency or discipline.

Asking what a “game” is can result in a varying range of opinions. We take a fairly broad definition, to be as inclusive as possible. We are likewise indiscriminate when considering whom it is we're here to support.

  • We embrace diversity as a strength
  • We don't exclude people based on their skill level, field of study or geography
  • We promote all types of game making; from hobbyist, to industry
  • We actively encourage and support underrepresented groups

Building Sustainably

Looking at the bigger picture, to preserve Scotland for future generations of game makers.

Trends are everywhere, but it's important that we recognise practices which are harmful to individuals and the wider community. We are aware of our visibility, and realise people look to us to set examples.

  • We consider our social and environmental responsibilities
  • We embed sustainable practices
  • We reimburse collaborators and volunteers for their services

Working Together

We collaborate with professionals, experts and other organisations in order to provide the best support possible.

By working with skilled professionals, academic bodies, industry and other organisations, we can build a more informed picture of Scotland's game making landscape. We can grow our support network, focus our resources, and generally make better decisions.

  • We strive to understand the needs of game making communities in Scotland
  • We have open conversations with institutions, organisations and other groups
  • We actively highlight games developed in Scotland

Always Learning

Our events are made widely available, supporting education and growth at every level.

We equip people with the best resources and information possible, so that Scotland can continue to inspire in all aspects of game development. Our events feature many wonderful guest speakers, who are skilled in various disciplines. Understanding the value of their experience, we endeavour to make this as accessible as possible.

  • We facilitate events that are for everyone
  • We curate a public library of our events and resources
  • We listen to feedback and respond to the needs of our communities

Making a Positive Impact

Sharing memorable experiences, both online and in-person.

Many people remember the thing that inspired them to later create their first game. We understand these experiences shouldn't be limited, and aim to be as open and accessible as possible with our events and activities.

  • We share things which inspire us, and the things which inspire our communities
  • We engage with our audience, to curate experiences they enjoy and remember
  • We understand everyone's needs are different, and remove barriers wherever possible

Keeping it lighthearted

Playful at heart, with a fun and positive approach to our work.

Although we are a formal organisation, our communications should be accessible to various age groups and locales. Furthermore we want people to feel comfortable reaching out to us, and are friendly and approachable to this end.

  • We avoid overly complicated wording, and technical language
  • We use emoji to punctuate ideas or tone. Heck, throw in a gif on occasion
  • We respond to communications in a friendly and professional manner
